China Construction steel imports and exports remained low
China construction steel imports and exports kept low in December 2010, which had little impact on domestic apparent consumption.
According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, rebar& bars and wire rod exports amounted to 2.837 million tonnes and 2.349 million tonnes from January to December 2010, up 104.7 percent and 117 percent from a year earlier; imports totaled 475,000 tonnes and 654,000 tonnes, up 33.8 percent and 28.5 percent compared with the same period of 2009.
In December, rebar& bars exports hit 188,000 tonnes, down 48,000 tonnes from a month earlier; wire rod exports reached 145,000 tonnes, up 38,000 tonnes over a month ago; rebar& bars and wire rod imports reached 47,000 tonnes and 61,000 tonnes respectively.
China imported 69,000 tonnes of semis in December, down 23,800 tonnes or 25.6 percent year on year. Semis imports totaled 637,000 tonnes in Jan.-Dec. 2010, down 3.948 million tonnes or 86.1 percent from a year earlier; exports amounted to 142,000 tonnes, up 99,000 tonnes compared with the same time of 2009. Net imports of semis hit 495,000 tonnes, down 4.047 million tonnes year on year.
