China Exported 3.12 Million Tonnes of Steel Products in January 2011

China imported 1.64 million tonnes of steel products in January 2011, up 290,000 tonnes or 21.6 percent year on year, according to the statistics from the General Administration of Customs. During the same period, China exported 3.12 million tonnes of steel products, up 240,000 tonnes or 8.2 percent compared with Jan. 2010.
China imported 80,000 tonnes of semis in January, up 50,000 tonnes or 126.5 percent over a year earlier.

On a crude steel equivalent basis, China’s steel exports hit 1.82 million tonnes , up 360,000 tonnes or 24.5 percent from a year ago; imports reached 3.32 million tonnes, up 250,000 tonnes or 8 percent year on year. Net export of crude steel came to 1.49 million tonnes, decreasing 110,000 tonnes year on year and rising 30,000 tonnes month on month.

China’s iron ore imports hit a new high of 68.97 million tonnes in January 2011, up 47.9 percent year on year and 10.89 million tonnes month on month. China exported 190,000 tonnes of coke in Jan,, down 160,000 tonnes over a month ago.
