U.S. Steel Imports Continued to Decline for Three Months
The date released by the U.S. Department of Commerce shows that in August 2011 as U.S. steel imports 2.213 million tons, an increase of 12.1%, a decline of 6.9%, lower than the previous consecutive two months. 1-8 months total U.S. steel imports 17.88 million tons, up 20.8%.
Sub-species, in August rebar, semi-finished products and the chain plate imports increased significantly, while other species are decreased, heat up to 45% volume decline. With the same period last year, in addition to galvanized sheet, wire rod and rebar, the other all steel imports are on the rise, growth plate clearly.
From the import source countries and regions, except North America, Central and South America, Ukraine and Turkey, but in August from imports from other countries and regions are decreased. With the same period last year, from Central and South America, China and CIS imports increased significantly, with imports from Central and South America grew 244 percent. August, U.S. imports from China of steel 109,000 tons, an increase of 20.3%, a decline of 23.5%.
See from the latest import license, as of September 27 to September, the U.S. steel import license number is 1.78 million tons, lower than the value over the same period in August, is expected in September, U.S. steel imports will continue to decline.
