China’s Sep. steel exports and iron ore imports rise

China exported 4.21 million tons of steel products in September, up 20,000 tons from August and 39.87 percent from a year earlier, according the latest statistics from China Customs. In the first nine months, China exported 37.15 million tons of steel products, up 9.5 percent.

China imported 1.33 million tons of steel products in September, down 20,000 tons from the previous month and an increase of 0.76 percent year-on-year. The 9-month imports totaled 11.96 million tons, down 4.3 percent.

Billet imports were 30,000 tons in September and 430,000 tons in the first nine months, down 2 percent year-on-year.

Coke exports were 140,000 tons, down 110,000 tons from the previous month. The 9-month export figures totaled 3.01 million tons, up 24.4 percent.

60.57 million tons of iron ore were imported into China in September, up 1.48 million tons, or 15.15 percent, from August; and 508.08 million tons were imported in the first nine months, up 11.1 percent.
