Attentions Should Be Paid While Choosing Fireproof Paintings for Steel Structures

The following attentions should be paid while choosing fireproof paintings for steel structures:

1. Do not use expandable decorative fireproof paintings on steel structures, as they are protective for only combustible base materials such as wood structures and the poor thickness can not improve the fire-resistance of steel structures.

2. Do not use thin-coat type expandable fireproof paintings on steel structures of 2h degree fire-resistance. With steel structures of more than 2h degree fire-resistance, paintings must be thick-coat type fireproof for steel structures.

3. Do not use interior paintings with no effective waterproof methods directly on exterior steel structures.

4. Under normal conditions, do not use exterior paintings on interior structures in order to save costs. This is because exterior paintings are much more expensive as they are made from high standard materials together with some special materials to ensure the high quality performance. But it’s better to choose exterior paintings for steel structure partly in the air or steel structure in wet environment.

5. Thick-coat type fireproof paintings are basically made from inorganic materials, with the advantage of being steady and aging slowly. The fire proof feature can be guaranteed as long as they do not fall off. It’s better to choose thick-coat type fireproof paintings in order for durability and fire-resistance.
