Anti-seismic Steel-concrete Mixed Structure

On April 20th in Lushan county of Ya’an city in Sichuan province, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred, which cased huge losses. Ya’an earthquake shows that complex geological conditions in China, most of the country exists occur seismic fortification intensity higher than the region’s security risks, on the other hand, the current aseismic design code provisions of seismic grade is low. Facing the vagaries of nature, we should strengthen anti-seismic research of construction steel structure. The earthquake occurred in the area with economic development  lag behind relatively.  To economy developed metropolitan areas in our country, a large number of high-rise buildings, especially super-high-rise building, due to the large numbers of people, a greater economic impact. so improving  the seismic capacity of the super-high-rise building structure is particularly important. The top of super-high-rise building structure such as: Shanghai World Financial Center, Shenzhen Emperor Building, Shenzhen SEG Plaza and so on, most of which adopt steel-concrete mixed structure. The steel-concrete mixed structure have  good characteristics both of fast construction of steel structure and high mixed of concrete structure, which is considered to be a better accord with China’s national conditions super-high-rise building structural style. Therefore, the study of the seismic performance of steel-concrete mixed structure is historical mission of the of earthquake workers and structure engineers that country and the times giving.

In the mixed structure, the core tube’s resistant-lateral stiffness  is much larger than the outer steel frame’s, which bears most of the wind and seismic loads. Core tube will get bending deforamtion in the horizontal force, and this may cause vertex displacement in a super-high-rise building, affecting the comfort and safety of the people in the building. One of the effective ways to improve this situation by force  is raising overall quality of the structure.
